Things to Do: Week of May 8

Send a postcard to Paul Ryan:  Paul Ryan has turned off ALL of his public telephones and fax machines in response to protests in favor of Obamacare, Planned Parenthood, Medicare, etc. and he is NOT accepting signed petitions, instead he’s TURNING AWAY voters who deliver the petitions. So, let’s see what 67 million postcards looks like in his driveway. It will take you ten minutes. Please start mailing postcards to his HOME: PAUL RYAN, 700 ST. LAWRENCE AVE., JANESVILLE, WI 53545

Submit Comments to Fight Changes to Net Neutrality:  The current administration and congress has already given internet service providers (ISPs) the right to sell our browsing habits to advertisers. This undermines consumer privacy. Now the administration and congress wants to take away net neutrality or the idea that ISPs have to treat all data equally.  This Guardian article does an excellent job of explaining why net neutrality is so important.  You can comment on the FCC website or if you need help coming up with a comment, you can use this website.

Submit Comments on EPA Regulations:  On March 24, 2017, EPA Administrator Pruitt issued an agency-wide memorandum on implementation of Executive Order 13777, which announced members of the required Regulatory Reform Task Force, and directed EPA program offices to seek public input on existing regulations and report findings to the Task Force by May 15.  Comment period ends May 15, 2017.  How to Comment: You may submit comments in writing, using Email, Docket or mail. Make Calls: Trump and ICE rolled out a new program dedicated to collecting reports of “crimes by illegal aliens.” This disgusting and un-American program serves no law enforcement purpose, and only exists to demonize immigrants, push fearmongering propaganda, and provide the White House with racist talking points.  Flood the ICE hotlines with reports of aliens from outer space. Sponsored by #LoveArmy and Common Defense.

Watch and Discuss:  Portland screening and discussion of “Now Is The Time: Healthcare for Everybody” on Sunday, May 7 at the Clinton St. Theatre. This new documentary film tells the story of the drama, struggle, and success of the movement towards healthcare equity.  After the film, you can meet representatives of three organizations working for universal, publicly funded health care in Oregon, including Nurses for Single Payer, and ask us questions about our work. Universal, single-payer health care has grabbed a lot of interest since the election, and given us an opportunity to make it a reality.  Sponsored by Portland Jobs with Justice.
